Just like that the holiday season is over and we have landed into a new year. With motivation running high as many begin to take on their New Year’s resolutions, we thought that now was a good time to give you a simple recipe to create a pest free home in 2013. After all, a home free of insects and rodents is a healthy home!
Seal off the exterior so pests cannot get inside. Check around windows, doors and along the foundation of the home for any small cracks or holes. These should be filled in with caulking or screens as to avoid pests from gaining entry to the inside of the home.
Remove all sources of standing water both inside and outside. Water is just as essential to food for many pests which means that leaky pipes, drips, and stagnant water outside of the home are all prone to inviting pests onto the property and into the home. You will want to fix any leaky pipes and be sure to remove any sources of standing water outside the home.
Organize storage spaces and remove the clutter. Clutter plus a secluded area equals a great opportunity for pest problems to go unnoticed and left unaddressed can get out of hand quickly. Avoid this scenario by spending some time tidying up the attic, garage and/or basement of the home.
Commit to keep the kitchen free of food debris. By removing built up grease, hard to reach crumbs and spills, you will greatly reduce the risk of pest problems in the kitchen. Also, commit to taking the trash out on a regular basis as well as keeping all open food stored in airtight containers.
Enlist a pest control company to help keep pests out. If you have not already signed up for pest control services then now is the time! Pests are a problem all year round with each new season seeing pests just waiting for an opportunity to get inside. But with the help of a local pest control company, you can say goodbye to pests and the threat they pose to health and home.
