It’s nice to think that as soon as the spring season arrives, any critters that may have been hiding out in your home over the cold winter will just scurry away and leave you alone. But unfortunately, this is not the case when it comes to mice in Lincoln, NE; Minneapolis, MN or elsewhere across the Upper Midwest. We recently discussed how spiders are having babies this spring and well, we are sorry to report but mice are doing the same…and possibly inside your home.
If mice found their way into your home last fall or perhaps at some point throughout the winter, this means that they have probably found a place in which they can thrive – the attic, basement, maybe in the walls. Mice are active all year round and not just actively moving around but also reproducing. Female mice can have five to ten liters each year, which makes them prolific breeders. Perhaps one of the reasons mice have so many young is because they have a high mortality rate. Wildlife including hawks and foxes appreciate mice for food but when mice find a safe haven in your home, they are not at high risk when it comes to being preyed upon. This means a fast spreading mouse infestation!
In order to control mice in your home this spring and throughout the entire year, our pest control professionals would like to share a few things to keep in mind…
Mice can squeeze through openings the size of a dime – Make sure all cracks and holes on the exterior of your home are sealed off.
Mice are commensal rodents and our home environment supports their survival – Make sure to eliminate sources of food, water and shelter that mice could access. Click here for more mouse prevention tips.
