Spiders
What Is A Spider?
House spiders are typically brownish or grayish in color. They are small to medium in size with a body length of about 1/8” to 3/8”. Female house spiders have rounded abdomens while males have elongated abdomens. Spiders generally have poor eyesight and rely on sensing vibrations in their web to detect prey.
Why Do I Have Them?
Spiders are predatory insects that will move indoors, especially during the cooler months of the year, to find secure areas to build their webs. Spiders become a nuisance when found inside homes or hanging from eaves, shutters and window frames. On the exterior of homes and other buildings, their webs can be quite unsightly. Spider problems are greatest for homes and cabins on a shady lot near a lake, stream or pond.
Are They Dangerous?
Some spiders will attempt to bite when disturbed, but they are usually unable to pierce human skin. Poisonous spiders, such as the Brown Recluse and Black Widow spiders, are not native to our area. They are more cause for frustration as a nuisance pest indoors because of their habit to build unsightly webs.
How Do I Get Rid Of Spiders?
Spiders typically only enter a dwelling if there is an easy means of doing so. You can help to control spider populations by keeping shrubs and bushes trimmed away from the siding, or exterior of the property as well as sealing any holes or cracks around doors, windows and basements. Contacting Plunkett’s Pest Control is the most effective way to ensure your property is kept free of spiders. You don't have to spend the first day cleaning your cabin; Plunkett's will take care of any spiders, spider webs in the cabin and spider webs on the dock so you can enjoy your trip when you head north for the weekend.
Can I Do It Myself?
Do-It-Yourself spider treatments and products are not usually effective and may contain pesticides that can be harmful to people and pets if they are misused or mixed improperly.
